A Collection of Hand-Painted Pewter Military Figures by Charles C. Stadden and Similar Makers
Description
A collection of connoisseur-grade hand-painted pewter military figures, including examples identified as the work of Charles C. Stadden. The collection depicts various ranks and regiments of the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. The figures are cast in pewter or similar white metal alloy and professionally hand-painted in accurate regimental colours. One figure represents an officer or NCO of the 23rd Regiment of Foot (Royal Welch Fusiliers), featuring a rectangular plaque on the base inscribed 23RD FOOT 1815. Another figure depicts a private of the 28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot in a firing pose, with the number 28 visible on the shako. The collection also includes an officer in campaign dress with a drawn sword, featuring a base sticker numbered 9703, an infantryman in full dress with a bell-top shako and white lace, and a grenadier in a bearskin cap with blue trousers. The figures are mounted on polished hardwood bases, several of which feature modelled scenic groundwork.
