A Meiji Period Arita Blue and White Porcelain Vase Lamp by Hichozan Shinpo
Description
This object is a Japanese porcelain vase from the Meiji period (1868-1912) that has been converted into a table lamp. The porcelain body is decorated in underglaze blue with a continuous botanical design featuring flowering prunus branches and bamboo. The underside of the base features a hand-written transcription in blue underglaze: Dai Nippon Hichozan Shinpo-zo (Great Japan, Hichozan Shinpo made). This mark is associated with the workshop of Tashiro Mon-emon of Arita and is of the period. The lamp is fitted with a tapered paper shade and vintage electrical components.
