Description

A W. Britain hand-painted white metal military diorama, set number 43125, depicting a Royal Artillery Elephant Battery in India during the late Victorian period. The scene features a tandem team of two elephants in detailed harness gear, guided by mahouts, pulling a heavy rifled muzzle-loading (RML) siege gun. The battery is accompanied by five personnel figures in dark blue Royal Artillery tunics and white solar pith helmets, including a seated gunner and a rear standard bearer carrying the Union Jack. The figures and artillery are mounted on a landscaped wooden base with sand-textured terrain and artificial vegetation, representative of the North-West Frontier. The entire piece is enclosed within a wooden-framed glass display case. Visible markings include two small adhesive inventory labels marked 9703 on the glass and the base, with a secondary label partially visible underneath.
