Philadelphia Chippendale Style Mahogany Armchair by Niagara Furniture
Description
A mahogany armchair in the Philadelphia Chippendale style, attributed to Niagara Furniture. The frame features a serpentine top rail with scrolled terminals above a pierced and intricately carved splat displaying foliate and scroll motifs. The outswept arms have carved scroll handrests on shaped supports. The chair includes a drop-in seat upholstered in a pale green and cream damask fabric. It is supported by front cabriole legs with shell-carved knees terminating in claw-and-ball feet, while the rear legs are slightly splayed. A small paper inventory label numbered 237 is affixed to the outer seat rail.
