An Art Deco Shelley Vogue Shape Fine Bone China Tea Service c.1930
Description
A comprehensive Shelley fine bone china tea service executed in the iconic Art Deco Vogue shape. The set features distinctive conical forms paired with solid triangular handles, a hallmark of the period’s geometric aesthetic designed by Eric Slater. The decoration consists of a vibrant floral motif depicting blue daisies with green foliage against a crisp white ground, further enhanced by pale green enamel detailing to the rims and handles. The service comprises multiple teacups, saucers, side plates, a square-form serving platter, a cream jug, and a lidded sugar bowl. The underside of each piece bears the green printed factory mark Shelley ENGLAND, the registered design number Rd 756533, and handwritten pattern numbers in red enamel. Serving platter measures approximately 24cm in width.
Condition report:
Two teacup exhibits notable damage to the foot rim. The remaining pieces appear to be in good overall condition, showing minor surface wear, light stacking marks, and occasional rubbing to the green enamel trim consistent with age and domestic use.
