Description

Manufactured by the J. & E. Stevens Co. of Cromwell, Connecticut, this is an Always Did Spise A Mule mechanical money bank. The item is constructed from heavy painted cast iron and features a lever-activated mechanism where the mule rotates to kick the seated figure. Measuring approximately 10 inches in length, this piece dates to the late 19th century and is a classic example of American mechanical bank design. No original box or packaging is present.

Condition report:

The bank is in restoration condition, exhibiting heavy paint loss and wear across all surfaces. Remnants of the original red, yellow, and brown colours are visible, though there is notable surface oxidation and light rust throughout. The cast-iron structure appears complete with no visible cracks or breaks in the casting. The internal spring-loaded mechanical function is currently untested. No original box is included.
