Lot 146:
A 19th Century Chinese Export Rose Medallion Porcelain Plate
Description
This fine example of Chinese export porcelain is decorated in the traditional Rose Medallion pattern, dating to the mid-to-late 19th century. The plate features a central bird-and-flower medallion encircled by a gilt border, from which radiate four alternating reserves. Two reserves depict detailed domestic figurative scenes in interior settings, while the remaining two show avian and floral motifs. These panels are set against a characteristically dense ground of scrolling green foliage, butterflies, and pink peonies, finished with a gilt-edged rim. The piece is executed in hand-painted overglaze enamels from the Famille Rose palette. The reverse is finished in a plain white glaze and is typically unmarked, featuring an unglazed foot rim. Diameter: approximately 24 cm.
Condition report:
The plate is offered in good overall condition. There is minor expected wear to the gilding on the rim and the central border. Light surface scratches and minor losses to the overglaze enamels are present, consistent with age and domestic use. No chips, cracks, or evidence of professional restoration detected.
