A Caughley 'Chantilly Sprigs' Blue and White Plate, Circa 1800
Description
A Caughley blue and white plate in the ‘Chantilly Sprigs’ pattern, dating to circa 1800. This circular ceramic plate features a scalloped rim and is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue on a white ground. The obverse displays a central floral motif, possibly a carnation, surrounded by scattered smaller floral elements and stylized insects or butterflies, all within a blue-edged rim. The reverse bears a single, small, hand-painted blue crescent or ‘C’ mark.
