Description

A Lowestoft Hand Painted ‘Blue Bomb’ Pattern Porcelain Teabowl and Saucer Set, circa 1775. This set, described on an accompanying tag as “Porcelain Teabowl and Saucer painted in the Chinese style with the ‘Two Peony Rock Bird’ pattern (c.1765),” is decorated in a polychrome enamel palette. The design features a distinct blue pierced rock formation, flowering plants (likely peonies), a small orange bird, and a red butterfly, all set against a white ground. The rim of both pieces is outlined with a simple red band. The interior of the teabowl has a small floral motif at its base. The saucer’s underside shows a faded, indeterminate mark.
