Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. Two Ecclesiastical Folio Volumes for St Peter's, Notting Hill, 1856.
Description
A pair of large-format folio volumes, bound in full black leather with gilt-tooled decoration. The first volume is lettered in gilt to the upper board: ST PETER’S, NOTTING HILL, 1856. PRESENTED BY THE SOCIETY FOR PROMOTING CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE. The second volume features a broad gilt-tooled foliate border and a central gilt motif depicting a radiant cross upon an altar bearing the Christogram IHS. Both volumes are bound in the ecclesiastical style typical of mid-19th-century lectern books, likely comprising a Holy Bible and a Book of Common Prayer. Each volume bears a small white auction label numbered 9210.
