A Large Royal Copenhagen Porcelain African Elephant Figurine, Model 1721
Description
A naturalistically modelled large-scale porcelain figurine of an African elephant, presented in a striding pose with a raised trunk and flared ears. The piece is finished in a high-gloss glaze over a palette of underglaze grey, brown, and cream tones. To the underside of one leg is a triangular gold foil label for Royal Copenhagen, Denmark. The base of one foot bears incised markings identifying the model number 1721.
