Pilkington's Royal Lancastrian Art Deco Sgraffito Lapis Glazed Vase by William Salter Mycock and Edward Thomas Radford
Description
A Pilkington’s Royal Lancastrian pottery vase of bulbous ovoid form with a short flared neck. The exterior is decorated in a matte teal-green lapis glaze featuring hand-incised sgraffito geometric and scrollwork patterns, including stylised waves, triangles, and linear bands, through which the darker clay body is visible. The base carries an impressed factory mark consisting of a circular device with the letter P above the words Royal Lancastrian and Made in England. It also bears the impressed model number 153. There are two incised marks on the base: a monogram for the artist William Salter Mycock (intertwined WSM) and a mark for the master thrower Edward Thomas Radford (three vertical lines joined by a horizontal line at the base).
