Description
A Pilkington’s Royal Lancastrian art pottery vase of ovoid form, featuring a short flared neck and a stepped footed base. The exterior is decorated with hand-painted stylised scrolling foliate and rosette motifs in a palette of cobalt blue and turquoise-green glazes, characteristic of the factory’s Lapis range. The base carries an impressed factory emblem of a rose within a portcullis, together with the words ROYAL LANCASTRIAN ENGLAND and the shape number 3014. Hand-painted marks in a dark glaze include the intertwined WS monogram for the decorator William S. Mycock, a small cross symbol, and a V.
