Two Decorative Miniature Spirit Barrels comprising an Oak and Brass Example and a Glazed Ceramic Example
Description
A lot consisting of two decorative spirit barrels of varied construction. The first is a wooden barrel, likely oak, bound by three metal hoops. It is supported by an integrated wooden stand and features a side-mounted bung and a wooden spigot fitted at the top. This example bears a white adhesive label with the handwritten characters 976. The second item is a ceramic barrel with a glossy brown glaze, relief-moulded to simulate the appearance of staves and decorated with three gilded bands. It is fitted with a large wooden bung on its side and a wooden spigot at the top. The top surface of the ceramic barrel displays an indistinct circular moulded mark, the characters of which are not clearly legible. Both items are designed in a traditional European style intended for the display or service of spirits and wine.
