A pair of Japanese Satsuma style earthenware four-footed vessels with gilt handles
Description
A pair of earthenware decorative vessels of bulbous form, supported by four mask-headed feet and featuring two large, scrolling handles with a gilt finish. The bodies are decorated with hand-painted floral motifs, including peonies and flowering prunus branches, executed with thick enamels and gilt highlights. The necks are embellished with red and gold circular crests within medallions. One vessel displays a deep green ground colour, while the other displays a cobalt blue ground colour. The undersides bear hand-painted red characters in Japanese script, which are not clearly legible.
