Description

This lot comprises two pieces of mid-20th-century glazed ceramic art pottery from the Hubert Bequet factory in Quaregnon, Belgium. The first item is a large, tapered ovoid vase with a wide, slightly irregular mouth. The exterior is decorated in a hand-painted, textured cloisonne style featuring a tropical bird and foliage against a variegated ochre and amber ground, with gilt highlights throughout the design. The base is moulded with a diamond pattern and bears an impressed shield-shaped maker’s mark and the incised number 767. The second item is a circular pedestal dish or compote with a shallow bowl on a flared foot. The interior depicts a hand-painted bird of paradise and floral motifs on a dark green ground, surrounded by a gilt lattice border and raised polychrome enamel dots. The underside of the foot is marked with a green printed backstamp for H. Bequet, Quaregnon, Made in Belgium.
Vase height: 25 cm
Dish diameter: 20.5 cm.
