A Smiths brass lantern-style mantel clock
Description
A vintage brass mantel clock designed in the traditional seventeenth-century lantern clock style, manufactured by Smiths Clocks and Watches Ltd. The brass case features a large surmounting bell with a turned finial, supported by four turned corner pillars that terminate in ball feet. The upper portion of the case is decorated with three pierced foliate and dolphin frets. The dial consists of a brass chapter ring with black Roman numerals and a central field with engraved foliate decoration, housing two black decorative hands. The interior of the rear door is stamped with the manufacturer’s mark MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN and SMITHS CLOCKS & WATCHES LTD. The name SMITHS is also visible on the dial below the XII position. The internal movement has been removed, leaving the case empty.
