Lot 121:
An Assortment of English and Chinese Export Porcelain Tea Bowls and Small Bowls, Late 18th to 19th Century
Description
This collection consists of five porcelain items including tea bowls and small bowls, dating from the late 18th to the 19th century. The group comprises two fluted bowls of differing sizes with moulded exterior walls, decorated with hand-painted overglaze floral sprays and an iron-red scroll and dot border at the rim. These are characteristic of English porcelain manufacture from the period, such as New Hall. Also included is a small porcelain tea bowl decorated with three individual hand-painted floral sprays. The remaining two items are porcelain tea bowls decorated in underglaze blue with figures, possibly scholars or attendants, within a landscape setting featuring trees and fences, typical of Chinese export or provincial ware. The bases of the blue and white bowls feature faint, illegible marks in underglaze blue, while the other pieces are unmarked.
Large fluted bowl diameter: approx 11.5 cm
Smallest tea bowl diameter: approx 7.5 cm.
