A late 20th-century oak cased longcase clock with moon phase dial
Description
A contemporary floor-standing longcase clock, also known as a grandfather clock, housed in a light-finished oak case. The hood features a broken-arch pediment with a central turned finial, flanked by turned pilasters. The trunk is fitted with a full-length glazed door, providing a view of the internal mechanism, while the base is finished with a simple recessed rectangular panel. The arched brass dial includes decorative scrolled spandrels and a silvered chapter ring with black Roman numerals and serpentine hands. The arch contains a functional moon phase dial depicting maritime and landscape scenes. Two apertures are present on the dial face. The mechanical movement is powered by three brass-cased weights suspended on chains, a configuration typically indicating both hour-striking and quarter-chiming capabilities, such as Westminster chimes. The movement is regulated by a circular brass pendulum bob.
