A trio of Victorian cobalt blue and gilded ceramic washstand pieces
Description
A trio of decorative ceramic washstand pieces comprising a large pitcher, a deep circular basin, and a matching circular sponge dish with a perforated drainer. The pieces are decorated with a cobalt blue ground and elaborate gilded scrolling cartouches. These panels contain polychrome depictions of exotic birds, including pheasants, set within foliate landscapes and floral sprays. The jug is of bulbous form with an ornate scrolled handle and flared rim. The basin features a matching flared rim with gilded highlights. The sponge dish has a central aperture surrounded by eight drainage holes. The set is likely fine earthenware or ironstone with hand-painted or high-quality transfer-printed enamel decoration. A small adhesive label marked 105 is attached to the body of the pitcher.
