A 1940s Essex Miniature Hand-Crank Toy Sewing Machine
Description
This Essex miniature chain stitch sewing machine dates from the 1940s and features a cast metal frame finished in a dark red enamel. The machine is mounted upon a rectangular wooden plinth with rounded corners. Mechanical components include a chrome-finished hand-cranked flywheel with a turned wooden handle, a thread tension assembly, and a polished metal bed plate. A small white adhesive inventory label is affixed to the bed plate, bearing the handwritten numbers 7817. The design is consistent with the Essex MK1 model, which was produced as a functional child’s toy. The item is shown with a yellow tape measure for scale.
