British Military Infantry Officer Style Shako with King George GR Cypher and Plume
Description
A British military shako featuring a tapered cylindrical body of black felt with leather binding at the crown and base. Centred on the front is a large, scalloped gilded metal plate embossed with the royal cypher of King George (GR) surmounted by a crown. The headdress is adorned with a tall feather plume, white over red in colour, and a braided gold bullion cord draped across the front. The black visor has a textured upper surface with embossed markings including the word PATENT and a partial maker name ending in ONS, identifiable as Hobson and Sons of London. A white inventory sticker numbered 9703 is attached to the visor.
