A Blundell for W. F. Stanley and Co. Ltd. Zero-Setting Compensating Polar Planimeter
Description
A vintage zero-setting compensating polar planimeter, sliding bar model, manufactured by Blundell and retailed by W. F. Stanley and Co. Ltd. The instrument is constructed from metal with a combination of polished chrome and matte grey finishes. The central body features a diamond-shaped logo containing the name Blundell. The tracing point is fitted with a glass magnifying lens. The sliding bar is engraved with a linear numerical scale, and the measuring head includes a circular horizontal dial and a cylindrical drum with a graduated vernier scale. The set includes the main planimeter arm, a weighted circular pivot base, and a separate needle probe. It is accompanied by the original printed instruction booklet titled Instructions for the use of the ZERO-SETTING compensating polar PLANIMETERS, which bears the W. F. Stanley and Co. Ltd. name and stylized S logo. The booklet is marked with a handwritten serial number 04012 and a purple date stamp for 26 JUL 1973. The kit is housed in its original rectangular black hard case with two metal flip-latches and a hinged lid, featuring a custom-cut tan foam interior.
