A 19th Century Chinese Canton Famille Rose Medallion Porcelain Vase
Description
A large Chinese export porcelain vase of baluster form, dating from the mid-to-late 19th century. The body is decorated in the traditional Canton Rose Medallion style, featuring alternating reserve panels. These medallions depict domestic courtly scenes with multiple figures and floral motifs containing birds and butterflies. The panels are set within a dense, gilded ground embellished with green scrolling foliage and floral sprays. The neck is adorned with four applied gilded shi-shi handles, and the shoulder features four applied gilded chilong dragons in high relief. The rim is flared and scalloped. No maker’s or reign marks are visible on the body. A small white paper inventory label marked 501 is adhered to the neck.
