An Assortment of Soviet and International Military Medals and Insignia
Description
This lot comprises an assortment of Soviet Russian and international military awards and commemorative items. The Soviet medals include the Medal for the Defence of the Caucasus, the Medal for Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941 to 1945, the Medal for the Capture of Berlin, and two examples of the Medal for the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941 to 1945. A 1978 Jubilee Medal for 60 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR is also present. Military insignia features a post-1943 Soviet Army officer’s cap badge in red enamel and gilt-toned metal, and a commemorative pin designed after the Order of the Patriotic War. Representing the post-Soviet period is a Russian Federation Medal of Admiral Kuznetsov. International items include a Syrian commemorative medal issued to mark the Al Ba’ath party coming to power in 1963 and a small unidentified medal with a red and white striped ribbon. The medals are primarily struck in brass or tombac with silvered, gilt, or enamel finishes. Most are mounted on standard Soviet five-sided aluminium or steel blocks with their respective ribbons. The lot includes two descriptive paper context slips written in English.
