A Second World War German Infantry Assault Badge in Silver, Zinc Construction
Description
A Second World War German Infantry Assault Badge (Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen), silver grade. This award was established in 1939 for infantry personnel who participated in three or more separate combat assaults. The badge is die-struck in a zinc alloy, a material typically associated with mid-to-late war production. The design comprises a vertical oval wreath of eight oak leaves, with a Karabiner 98k rifle and fixed bayonet positioned diagonally across the centre. The top of the wreath is surmounted by the national emblem, featuring an eagle with outstretched wings clutching a swastika. The reverse is of solid-back construction and is fitted with a vertical needle-style pin, a barrel hinge, and a simple wire catch. No maker’s mark is visible on the reverse of the badge.
