Italian First World War Inter-Allied Victory Medal by Stefano Johnson
Description
An Italian Inter-Allied Victory Medal (Medaglia interalleata della vittoria), established in 1922 to commemorate service during the Great War. The obverse features a winged Victory figure standing on a chariot drawn by four lions, with the markings G. ORSOLINI MOD. and S. JOHNSON MILANO at the lower edge. The reverse displays a central flaming tripod with the inscription GRANDE GVERRA PER LA CIVILTA around the rim and AI COMBATTENTI DELLE NAZIONI ALLEATE ED ASSOCIATE to the right. The Roman numerals MCMXIV and MCMXVIII are positioned on either side of the tripod, and the piece is signed G. VILLA INC. for the engraver. The medal is struck in bronze and is suspended from its original rainbow-coloured silk ribbon.
