Imperial German 1914 Iron Cross 2nd Class
Description
An Imperial German 1914 Iron Cross, 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse). The medal features a classic three-piece construction consisting of a magnetic black-finished iron core held within a ribbed silvered frame. The obverse face depicts a crown on the top arm, the royal monogram W for Kaiser Wilhelm II in the centre, and the institution date 1914 on the lower arm. The reverse face shows a crown over the initials FW for King Friedrich Wilhelm III, a central spray of oak leaves, and the original 1813 institution year. The cross is complete with its original suspension ring and a short length of black and white striped Prussian silk ribbon. A small paper lot sticker numbered 9703 is adhered to the ribbon.
