Ottoman Empire Harp Madalyası Gallipoli Star
Description
An Ottoman Empire Harp Madalyası, widely known as the Gallipoli Star or Iron Crescent. This military award is composed of a silvered base metal in the shape of a five-pointed star with ball-tipped finials. The arms of the star feature recessed panels with red enamel. The central circular medallion contains a red enamel background with a silvered overlay of the Tughra of Sultan Mehmed V Reşad above the date 1333 in Ottoman Turkish script, which corresponds to the year 1915 AD. The reverse is plain with no visible maker marks. The item is missing its back pin, leaving a damaged wire attachment point at the centre.
