A Second World War British 1939-1945 Star with Battle of Britain Clasp
Description
A British Second World War 1939-1945 Star campaign medal struck in copper-zinc alloy. The six-pointed star features the Royal Cypher of King George VI surmounted by a crown on the obverse, surrounded by a circlet inscribed THE 1939-1945 STAR. It is suspended from its original ribbon representing the three branches of the British Armed Forces. Affixed to the ribbon is a gilt-brass clasp inscribed BATTLE OF BRITAIN. The reverse of the medal is plain and uninscribed, which is the standard issue for United Kingdom service personnel. This clasp was awarded to aircrew members who participated in at least one operational sortie with a designated squadron of RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain between 10 July and 31 October 1940.
