Belgian First World War Commemorative Medal 1914-1918
Description
A Belgian Commemorative Medal of the 1914-1918 War, struck in bronze and designed by Eugene Jean de Bremaecker. The medal is shield-shaped with a curved base. The obverse features the right-facing profile of a Belgian soldier wearing an Adrian helmet, flanked by the dates 1914 and 1918 in the lower corners. It is signed E. J. DE BREMAECKER along the upper left edge. The reverse carries a bilingual inscription in French and Dutch: MEDAILLE COMMEMORATIVE DE LA CAMPAGNE 1914-1918 and HERINNERINGSMEDAILLE VAN DEN VELDTOCHT 1914-1918. This text is surmounted by a royal crown and flanked by laurel branches. The medal is suspended from its original moire silk ribbon in the Belgian national colours of red with a wide central yellow stripe.
