A Pair of First World War Medals to Private F. Blackburn, Royal Scots
Description
A First World War campaign medal pair, commonly referred to as a combat pair, awarded to a soldier of the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). The group consists of a British War Medal and a Victory Medal. The British War Medal is struck in silver and features the profile of King George V on the obverse, with a reverse design of a figure on horseback trampling a shield and the dates 1914-1918. The Victory Medal is struck in bronze and depicts a winged figure of Victory on the obverse, with the reverse inscribed THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-1919 within a laurel wreath. Both medals are officially edge-impressed with the recipient’s service number, rank, name, and regiment: 8394 PTE. F. BLACKBURN. R. SCOTS.
