Description
A silver British campaign medal known as the Baltic Medal, issued for service during the naval operations against the Russian Empire in the Baltic Sea during the Crimean War. The obverse features the diademed head of Queen Victoria facing left, with the legend VICTORIA REGINA. The reverse depicts the seated figure of Britannia looking over her shoulder towards the fortresses of Bomarsund and Sveaborg, with the word BALTIC above and the dates 1854-1855 in the exergue. The medal is fitted with a swivelling ornate scroll suspension and is mounted on its original style 32mm wide yellow ribbon with blue edges. The edge of the medal is plain and unnamed, as was standard for issues to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. A small white adhesive sticker with the handwritten digits 9703 is applied to the ribbon.
