Description

A British silver campaign medal, the China War Medal 1900, issued for service during the Boxer Rebellion. The obverse depicts the crowned and veiled bust of Queen Victoria facing left with the legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX. The reverse features a trophy of arms and a palm tree with the motto ARMIS EXPOSCERE PACEM and the date CHINA 1900 in the exergue. The medal is suspended by a swivel mount from a crimson ribbon with yellow edges. The rim is officially engraved with the recipient’s details: 1740 Sepoy Nihala 4th Punjab Infy. The 4th Punjab Infantry was an Indian Army regiment that participated in the relief of Peking during the campaign. The medal is accompanied by a modern collector’s identification tag detailing the recipient’s rank and unit.
