British World War I Memorial Plaque Replica
Description
This item is a reproduction of the British World War I Memorial Plaque, a commemorative medallion traditionally issued to the next-of-kin of service personnel who died during the conflict. The design features Britannia holding a trident and a laurel wreath over a rectangular tablet intended for the name of the deceased. A large lion stands at her side, with two dolphins in the upper field and a vanquished eagle at the base. The perimeter of the plaque is inscribed with the legend HE DIED FOR FREEDOM AND HONOVR. The nameplate area is currently obscured by a white adhesive inventory label bearing the handwritten number 9703. The plaque is constructed from cast metal with a bronze-toned finish and includes a small circular drill hole at the top edge for display.
Diameter: 120mm.
