Description

A collection of hand-painted metal toy soldiers depicting various roles within the British Army during the First World War. The figures are constructed from white metal and finished in high-gloss paint. All personnel are depicted in the standard khaki Service Dress of the 1914-1918 period. The assortment includes infantrymen in various combat and non-combat poses, including figures wearing the Mark I Brodie steel helmet and the 1905 pattern Service Dress cap. Equipment visible includes Pattern 1908 webbing and Lee-Enfield (SMLE) rifles, some with fixed bayonets. Notable figures in the collection include members of the Army Cyclist Corps with bicycles, a soldier wearing an early pattern PH gas hood, a wounded soldier with a head bandage and arm in a makeshift sling on a textured scenic base, and an officer or non-commissioned officer armed with a Webley service revolver. Most figures are mounted on green-painted rectangular or oval metal bases. The manufacture and finish are consistent with contemporary collectors’ figures such as the W. Britains Premier Series. A small white paper tag with the number 103 is attached to the leg of one figure.
