A Pair of Mid-20th Century African Hand-Carved Ebony Wood Busts
Description
A pair of African busts hand-carved from dense, dark ebony wood. The figures represent two individuals with distinct hairstyles; one features a short, tightly textured finish, while the other displays a prominent, ridged central crest. Both sculptures are characterised by highly polished facial features contrasting with chiselled, textured bases. These pieces are indicative of mid-20th century East African woodcarving, often associated with the Makonde or Kamba people. A small white paper inventory label is adhered to the neck of one bust, bearing the handwritten digits 7 and 2885.
