Description

A curated collection of six vintage hardback books featuring a variety of literary, reference, and lifestyle subjects. The set includes Down the Garden Path by Beverley Nichols (Jonathan Cape), Everything Within (George Newnes), News Chronicle Golden Treasury, The Bedside Book of Discoveries (Reader’s Digest Bedside Library, Vol. IV), The Standard Encyclopedia, and An Attic Philosopher in Paris by Emile Souvestre. The volumes are bound in various coloured cloths and textured papers including cream, azure blue, forest green, tan, and deep maroon. Many spines feature decorative gilt lettering and ornamental motifs characteristic of mid-century British publishing houses. The collection represents a classic cross-section of popular 20th-century home library editions. Largest volume measures approximately 20 cm in height.

Condition report:

The collection exhibits age-appropriate wear consistent with domestic use and long-term shelving. Notable defects include fading to the cloth spines, rubbing to the boards, and bumping to the corners. There is minor fraying at the spine extremities of the larger volumes, particularly the George Newnes and News Chronicle editions. Bindings remain generally secure and the volumes appear complete, though internal pages have not been individually inspected for foxing or inscriptions.
