Description

A mid-20th century Wade England ceramic figural jug, featuring high-relief moulded decoration of a squirrel nestled amongst oak leaves and acorns. The vessel is designed with a handle modelled as a gnarled tree branch, finished in a vibrant polychrome glaze of green, brown, and ochre tones over a cream-coloured ground. The underside bears the green underglaze WADE ENGLAND maker’s mark, alongside an impressed model number 154 and a small hand-painted character mark. This piece exemplifies the naturalistic revival styles produced by the Wade potteries in the mid-century period. Height: approximately 22 cm.

Condition report:

The exterior appears to be in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or significant abrasions to the relief work. There is noticeable internal staining within the spout and interior base consistent with previous use.
