Lot 154:
A 20th-century Thai patinated bronze figure of a warrior
Description
An anonymous 20th-century patinated bronze sculpture depicting a traditional Southeast Asian warrior, likely of Thai or Siamese origin. The figure is rendered in historical military attire, featuring a distinctive pointed helmet, decorative armbands, and a patterned waistcloth. He is depicted in a formal standing posture, holding a curved dha sword across his chest. The piece is a characteristic example of a decorative commemorative bronze from the mid-to-late 20th century. It is a hollow casting, likely produced via the lost-wax method, with remnants of the casting core visible within the underside. The sculpture is set upon an integral, tiered rectangular bronze base. No artist signatures, foundry marks, or edition numbers are present.
Condition report:
The bronze retains an even, dark brown colour to the patina throughout. There is minor surface dust and light wear to the high points, consistent with the age of the piece. The integral base is in good structural condition. The underside reveals the hollow nature of the cast with some residual core material.
