Lot 129:
Late 19th Century Oak Mantel Clock
Description
This late 19th to early 20th-century mantel clock is designed in an architectural style, featuring a case primarily constructed from oak with a prominent grain. The structure includes a peaked pediment top and fluted pilasters that flank the central dial. The front panels are composed of a dark-stained secondary wood, possibly poplar or mahogany. The clock face is set behind a circular brass bezel and glass crystal, featuring Roman numerals and ornate blackened metal hands. While no maker marks are visible on the exterior, the style and construction are characteristic of German horological manufacturing from this era. Dimensions: 26cm x 31cm x 13cm.
Condition report:
The oak case is in fair condition, showing significant signs of age and wear including scuffing, scratches, and notable finish loss to the base. The dial face exhibits heavy crazing and yellowing. Drawer construction is not applicable to this item. The brass bezel and glass hardware appear to be original to the piece. No major alterations or repairs are evident. The mechanical movement has not been tested for functionality and the item is sold as seen. General surface grime and dust are present throughout.
