A Cased 9 Carat Gold and Enamel City of Wakefield Mayor's Medal by Thomas Fattorini 1983
Description
A teardrop-shaped 9 carat gold civic medal commissioned for the City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council. The obverse features a blue enamel stylized monogram set against a textured gold background. The reverse is engraved with the inscriptions CITY OF WAKEFIELD MDC, COUNCILLOR C. L. CROXALL, J.P., and MAYOR 1982 – 1983. The medal is struck with a series of hallmarks to the reverse comprising a maker’s mark within a rectangle reading TF, a crown gold standard mark, a fineness mark within an oval reading 375, a Birmingham assay office anchor symbol, and a lowercase i date letter for the year 1983. The medal is suspended from a wide, pleated red grosgrain ribbon via a gold loop. It is housed in its original black leatherette-covered fitted case, which features a cream silk and velvet interior. The interior silk lid is printed in black with the text Thomas Fattorini REGENT ST BIRMINGHAM B1 3HQ ENGLAND.
