A 9ct Gold and Enamel Leeds City Prize Medal by George Adams and Sons 1930
Description
A hallmarked 9-carat gold prize medal or watch fob of shield-like form with decorative scrollwork edges. The obverse features the coat of arms of the City of Leeds in high relief, depicting a central shield with a golden fleece on a blue enamelled field, surmounted by three owls. A blue enamelled banner below bears the city motto reading PRO REGE ET LEGE. The reverse is flat and bears an engraved inscription which reads L·N·P·B·L / 1929-30 / RILEY CUP / H. JACKSON. The item is fitted with a suspension loop at the top. The reverse bears several stamped marks including a rectangular frame containing the characters G A & S, the number 9 and the number 375 denoting the gold purity, an anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, and a lowercase letter f in a shield.
