A Kaiser West German Porcelain Chinoiserie Charger
Description
A West German porcelain charger manufactured by Kaiser, featuring a Chinoiserie scene inspired by 18th-century designs. The central well is decorated with two figures in traditional dress within a garden landscape featuring a weeping willow tree, flowering shrubs, and insects. This central scene is enclosed by a black and gilt foliate border. The wide iron-red outer border is embellished with a gilt diaper pattern and four shaped cartouches, each containing a miniature figure scene in a landscape. The rim is finished with a gilt edge. The reverse of the piece bears a printed blue mark consisting of a crown above the characters A and K, with the words KAISER and W. GERMANY below. A brown printed script inscription reads Nach Originalen des 18. Jahrhunderts, and the piece is further marked Dekor 850 A in brown print. The front of the charger bears two rectangular white adhesive labels: one reads 12847 P and the other reads SHELBYS AUCTIONEERS LOT 313 01132502626 (photo 1). The reverse features a small square tan paper label with handwritten numerals and a white hanging cord attached to the foot rim (photo 2).
