A Chinese Rosewood and Brass Mounted Jewellery Chest with Pierced Jade Panels
Description
A Chinese jewellery chest constructed from dark-stained rosewood with ornate brass mounts. The front configuration consists of two doors to the left and a single vertical drawer to the right. Each door is inset with a rectangular panel of pale celadon-green nephrite jade, featuring pierced and carved openwork foliate decoration. The cabinet is further embellished with engraved brass corner brackets, hinges, and a central butterfly-shaped latch plate. The drawer is fitted with a large brass handle cast in the form of a bat, a traditional Chinese symbol for good fortune. The item retains a white adhesive inventory label to the drawer face and an auction lot tag from Shelbys Auctioneers.
