Two Pieces of British Art Pottery Including a Royal Doulton Cyprus Pattern Plate and carlton ware lighter
Description
A Royal Doulton earthenware plate in the Cyprus pattern, featuring a complex radial design with a central blue and orange rosette surrounded by twelve white petal-shaped panels, each containing a greyish-brown flower head with a yellow centre. The wide border displays a green acanthus leaf pattern, finished with a blue, orange, and yellow geometric band at the rim. The second piece is a lustre-glazed carlton ware lighter earthenware ewer with a matching stopper, finished in a rich, iridescent reddish-brown metallic lustre glaze. The body is decorated with motifs of a bird amongst flowers in gold, orange, and blue. It features a high-arching handle and a small spout, both accented with bright gilding. The plate bears an auction label for Shelbys Auctioneers, lot 106, and the ewer is marked with a handwritten label 501.
