Lot 102:
A collection of Victorian English porcelain commemorative and souvenir mugs
Description
A collection of white porcelain mugs of cylindrical form, likely of English origin, each featuring a simple loop handle and gilded bands to the rim and base. The mugs are decorated with a combination of hand-painted vignettes and commemorative gold-script inscriptions. One mug features a hand-painted topographical landscape scene within a scrolled gilt border and is inscribed in gold script A Birthday Gift. Another mug is decorated with hand-painted floral sprays including a pink rose and bears a gold-script inscription appearing to read A Present from Wickham above the date 1853. The other mugs in the collection feature simpler hand-painted floral motifs. One mug bears a modern auction lot label from Shelbys Auctioneers for lot 102, and another has a small white sticker with the handwritten number 501.
