A Kaiser Porcelain Decorative Charger After Johannes Bosschaert
Description
A large German decorative porcelain wall plate or charger featuring a transfer-printed central panel. The scene depicts a floral still life after a 1627 painting by Johannes Bosschaert, showing a woven basket of tulips and other blooms alongside a dish of fruit against a dark background. The broad rim is finished with an elaborate gilt scroll and foliate border on a buff-coloured ground. The reverse is printed with a blue underglaze mark consisting of a crown above an AK monogram, with the words KAISER and W. GERMANY below. Additional brown script on the underside reads Nach einem Gemälde von Johannes Bosschaert, Blumenkorb und Fruchtschale, datiert 1627, and Dekor 849 B. Two white adhesive stickers are present on the front face, one reading SHELBY’S AUCTIONEERS LOT 295 01132502626 and another reading 12847. The piece is fitted with a wire wall hanger through two holes in the foot rim.
