A Collection of Jersey Philatelic First Day Covers and Illustrated Postcards
Description
A collection of Jersey philatelic material comprising First Day Covers and illustrated postcards, presented in a dark green four-ring binder. The collection includes various thematic sets such as Jersey Spring Flowers (1974), Jersey Anniversaries featuring Winston Churchill and John Wesley (1974), and the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (1975). Later commemorative and definitive issues include Jersey Yachting, Marine Life III, Non-Value Indicators, and Sea Birds and Waders, all bearing postmarks from May and August 1998. The covers are franked with circular date stamps reading FIRST DAY OF ISSUE JERSEY. Several 1970s covers bear typed addresses to Mr. L. W. Simpson in Leeds and Mr. H. M. Linton in Darlington.
The collection also features a series of Season’s Greetings from Jersey postcards with illustrations of local churches, including St. Ouen, St. Lawrence, and St. Brelade. These cards bear the printed artist name Peter Layton at the lower right corner of the illustrations and are postmarked 15 November 1988. The items are displayed within clear plastic protective sleeves. A printed heraldic crest featuring three lions and the words JERSEY and OFFICIAL FIRST DAY COVER are visible on the 1974 definitive values cover.
