An Antique English Cased Brass Balance Scale Set for the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Refreshment Department
Description
This item is an antique English cased balance scale set, housed within a dark wooden box. The upper section of the box integrates a brass balance mechanism featuring a circular brass pan on the left and a flat, rectangular brass weighing platform on the right. The brass mechanism is faintly marked “MADE IN ENGLAND”. Accompanying these are a stack of nesting brass weights, one visibly marked ‘3oz’, and several smaller brass weights. The lower compartment reveals two large, flat, circular components, several small cylindrical weights or tools, and a rectangular metal container prominently inscribed with ‘LANCASHIRE & YORKSHIRE RAILWAY. REFRESHMENT DEPARTMENT.’. An auction sticker ‘Shelbys Auctioneers Ltd 96’ is affixed to the inside of the box lid.
